Committee for Early Childhood Development Head Start utilizes a complete child development program. We target the child’s whole learning environment, including health, nutrition, literacy, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.

We believe that parents are a child’s first teacher since they have the greatest influence on and responsibility for their child. Regular home visits and parent conferences help us provide continual opportunities for parents to develop competence in parenting and child development and help increase parents’ self-respect and confidence in the process.

We utilize the Partners for a Healthy Baby curriculum for the home-based program and the Creative Curriculum for the center-based classes to address children’s collective and individual needs. Partners for a Healthy Baby features materials for home visitors and families that promote child development and family well-being. The curriculum is organized around children’s ages and topics home visitors can use to support both age-appropriate learning and family development. The Creative Curriculum is based on the concept that young children learn best by doing. It is built on the child development theory that all children learn through active exploration of their environment. It is also designed to foster the development of the whole child through teacher-led small and large group activities.

Our program’s success is built upon an atmosphere of teamwork, cooperation, and communication. Equally important is the trust, respect, and confidence our team has in each other, regardless of cultural and/or ethnic background.

We, at the Committee for Early Childhood Development Head Start, are committed to the philosophy that all children can learn. Therefore, all children from birth to five years old living in this community deserve a comprehensive program of activities designed to stimulate and foster readiness for learning.
